Woking continued their fine form at Hayes Lane on Wednesday night, with second half substitutes Reece Grego-Cox and Rhys Browne scoring to secure a confident 2-0 victory.

Bromley had the first chance of the game as Michael Cheek got in between and behind the Woking centre-backs, but Joe McNerney recovered well to thwart any threat and see the eventual effort go wide.

Padraig Amond went close after 17 minutes. Jim Kellermann clipped a good ball forwards between the left-back and centre-back, and the Irish forward had a half-volleyed effort from a tight angle cannon back off the crossbar.

After a period of Woking control, Bromley countered with Harry Forster down the right. His cut back ball across the box fell to Billy Bingham, but the effort didn’t trouble Craig Ross and was comfortably over.

Woking had the best chance of the first-half 40 minutes in, as Amond had a header from close range saved brilliantly by Tom Smith following a good cross from Josh Casey.

Ricky Korboa had an effort blocked for a corner just a minute into the second half. He was subbed off after the attack following a recurrence of an injury which saw two pauses to the match in the first half, with Reece Grego-Cox replacing him.

Grego-Cox made an almost instant impact, winning a corner after chasing the ball in the channels. The cross from Casey fell kindly to the forward, who provided the crucial touch at the back post to put the Cardinals in the lead. 0-1, 58 minutes in.

Bromley’s first real chance of the game came in the 70th minute, as Cheek had a header force Ross into a good save from close range. Bush then had a flat, long throw meet the head of Adam Marriott, but the effort was over Ross.

Ross was called into action again five minutes later. Scott Cuthbert was down, but Bromley took a quick free kick. Cheek shot from distance and it was met by the ‘keeper low down, before Marriott tried his luck from a tight angle, with Ross equal to it again.

Woking’s overall dominance in the game was rewarded however, after Grego-Cox beat the oncoming Smith to a ball behind the Bromley defence. He squared it to the subbed-on Rhys Browne, who beat his man to provide the finishing touch. 2-0, 78 minutes in.

Jim Kellermann, like Amond earlier, came off to an applause from the vocal away supporters late on as he was replaced by Kyran Lofthouse.

Full-time: Bromley 0 Woking 2

The win marks Woking’s fifth consecutive game without defeat and a rise to fourth in the Vanarama National League table. Next up is a similarly tough away game against Boreham Wood, Saturday 12th November. The Cards host Oxford United in the rescheduled Emirates FA Cup tie on Wednesday 16th November.
