Woking Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Tunji Akinola.

The versatile defender, 24, joins the Cardinals having impressed in pre-season against Stratford Town and AFC Wimbledon.

Akinola started his career at West Ham United, coming through the academy. He featured 33 times in League Two on loan at Leyton Orient in 2020/21. A permanent move to Partick Thistle followed in the summer of 2021, featuring 34 times in the Scottish Championship.

“The one thing with anyone under assessment in these pre-season phases is that they must commit themselves fully to the objective,” said Manager Darren Sarll. “If in any way, they do not apply everything they have, they almost always fall short. It has been clear that Tunji has realised these factors and has performed both technically and physically very well.

“To come into this changing room with how established it now is can be tough, but he has earned this chance and opportunity. His physical capabilities and aggression really impressed me, and we know there is an awful lot of improvement to come.

“With the likes of Wilkinson, Cuthbert, and Taylor within his position he has a wealth of knowledge and experience that he can access, if open-minded. I’m looking forward to getting to know him more over the coming months and integrating him further into our strategy,” Sarll added.

Tunji Akinola is available for player sponsorship in 2023/24. Contact nick.bavin@wokingfc.co.uk for more details.
