Woking vs Chesterfield
Vanarama National League
Tuesday 21st November 2023
19:45 Kick-Off

Woking face the toughest challenge of their season yet when they welcome runaway leaders Chesterfield to the Laithwaite.

After disappointment against Oldham on Saturday, hosting the Spireites, who also lost on Saturday at Southend, is set to be a tall order for Ian Dyer and his squad, who have just two wins in their last ten league games and no home win since August Bank Holiday.

However, one positive was the debut for Alexis Andre Jr in goal on Saturday after Will Jaaskelainen was ruled out with illness, so he will be looking to back up an excellent performance with another one against the league's most potent attack, whilst Dyer might mix up the squad following the return of Sam Habergham and Timi Odusina to the bench against the Latics.

Opposition Watch
Following playoff heartbreak at Wembley, losing on penalties in the final to Notts County, the Spireites sought out to make the title theirs this season with a number of big signings. Tom Naylor joined from Wigan and the infamous Will Grigg came from MK Dons, and Naylor from midfield already has six goals, with Grigg having scored ten. Other signings included loanee Everton keeper Harry Tyrer, Ryan Boot from Solihull Moors, James Berry from Macclesfield for a six figure fee and Michael Jacobs from Portsmouth.

However, their player of the season thus far is arguably Liam Mandeville, with the right winger also being deployed at right back by Paul Cook and scoring five so far this season whilst providing countless assists. No one has scored more than Chesterfield's 48 goals, and with eight players having contributed three or more, it's no wonder this team is flying at the top.

Before Saturday's 2-1 loss at Southend, Chesterfield hadn't lost since the 26th August, and they've won 15 of their 19 league games, drawing two. They have the best away form in the league with 22 points from 10 away games so far, so it will be a tall order for the Cards to break their own duck at home.

Last Time Out
A penalty from Ollie Banks gave the Spireites all three points at the Laithwaite in March, as they would eventually pip Woking to third place. However, the reverse fixture in early February was a memorable one for the Cards, as goals from Padraig Amond, James Daly and Jim Kellermann secured a 3-1 win in Derbyshire.

The sides have played each other seven times, with Woking winning three, Chesterfield winning three and one draw.
