WOKING v FOREST GREEN ROVERS

Setanta Shield Quarter-Final

7.45pm on Tuesday 13 January 2009

REDUCED ADMISSION PRICES

Cards fans have been starved of a game at Kingfield since Boxing Day, so hopefully they will turn out in numbers for this Setanta Shield Quarter-Final. Both Woking and Forest Green Rovers will want to give priority to escaping the relegation zone but we know that Phil Gilchrist at least will not allow that to deflect him from his aim of progressing in this competition. Jim Harvey?s Rovers? side seem to have developed a liking for cup competitions, with a great FA Cup run and knocking five goals past Hemel Hempstead and Redditch in successive FA Trophy rounds. The winners of Tuesday night?s encounter will play the winners of the Crawley Town/Chelmsford City v Ebbsfleet United tie, so we could have the dubious pleasure of seeing Steve Evans again this season if we win.

WOKING

The Cards will be missing Gez Sole and Bradley Quamina through suspension and Tom Hutchinson, still recovering from his knee operation. Paolo Vernazza may now be sufficiently recovered from his hamstring injury to gain a place on the bench at least.

FOREST GREEN ROVERS

Rovers have struggled in the league this season, sitting one place below Woking on goal difference with two games in hand, but in the cup competitions they are flying, with impressive progress made in the FA Trophy and a narrow defeat to Championship side Derby County in the third round of the FA Cup. Forest Green were three minutes away from securing a replay against Derby, having led twice, but Steve Davies?s late penalty meant that, despite a thrilling game and lots of goals, their cup run ended in a 4-3 defeat. Rovers are also into the third round of the FA Trophy after disposing of Redditch United 5-0 on Sunday, with Adriano Rigoglioso scoring two goals

Last Season

Woking 1 Forest Green Rovers 1

1 September 2007

It was a game of two penalties at Kingfield last season, with Gez Sole sending the Rovers keeper the wrong way to put the Cards in the lead after Goma Lambu had been taken out by Anthony Tonkin. However, with six minutes to go, Stuart Fleetwood won and scored a penalty for Rovers.

Forest Green Rovers 2 Woking 1

21 March 2008

Fleetwood was again the man who stole the points away from the Cards after his 86th minute winner at the New Lawn Stadium sealed a 2-1 win for FGR. Adriano Rigoglioso had put the home side in front after half an hour only for Damian Batt to equalise ten minutes later. However, Fleetwood slotted past Worner with full time approaching, condemning Woking to a fifth straight defeat.

This Season

Woking 0 Forest Green Rovers 1

23 August 2008

A super strike by Rovers? Kaid Mohamed shortly after half-time brought Kim Grant?s side their fourth consecutive defeat. The Cards, with Lenny Pidgley making his debut in goal, had played some decent football in the first half but never looked like equalising once Rovers had got in front, with the lack of a striker obvious once more.
