FA Youth Cup on Wednesday evening

Brian Caffarey
9:59pm, Tue 3rd Nov 2009
Woking v Dagenham and Redbridge
FA Youth Cup, 1st Round Proper
7.45pm on Wednesday 4 November 2009

The Youth side have battled through four preliminary stages, all played away from home, to reach the First Round Proper of this prestigious competition. With the likes of Ola Sogbanmu (scorer of two goals for the senior side in the FA Cup replay against Hythe Town), Matt Pegler and Anson Cousins expected to be in the starting line-up, the Cards have some talented young players in their ranks, so why not come down to Kingfield for what should be an entertaining and exciting encounter? The winners of the tie will travel to Charlton Athletic in the next round.

For Dagenham and Redbridge Wednesday’s game represents their first outing this season in this competition but the young Cards have had to make their way through four tough away games to get this far. Their results so far have been:

Worthing 1 Woking 4
FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round
7 September 2009

Tooting and Mitcham United 0 Woking 5
FA Youth Cup, 1st Qualifying Round
23 September 2009

Molesey 1 Woking 4
FA Youth Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
5 October 2009

Ashford Town (Middx) 2 Woking 2 (Woking won 5-4 on penalties after extra-time)
FA Youth Cup 3rd Qualifying Round
21 October 2009

In addition to Ola, Matt and Anson, who have all made their first team debuts, two more regular members of the Youth side, Rob Carr and Tom Topham, were on the substitutes’ bench at Hendon in the FA Cup tie. Inspirational captain and central defender Aaron Gough has been injured and may miss Wednesday’s game.

There will be extra time and a penalty shoot-out if necessary.

Adults £4. Concessions £2.

There will be a programme on sale, priced at 50p.

Come on, you Cards!
