Woking 4 South Park 1
FA Youth Cup (1st Qualifying Round)
25th September 2013
With steady rain and a slick surface, this was excellent entertainment for the small crowd. The result was in doubt until ten minutes from the end. Woking gradually took control of the first half with their passing game and good closing down of their opponents. With a total of ten corners in the first half they were fully deserving of their interval lead. South Park defended stoutly and kept Woking at bay until the thirty-sixth minute. Reece Placio then picked up a loose ball and ran into the penalty area. He pushed the ball past the goalkeeper and Jake Gill was on hand to convert for the opening goal. Just before the break the ball was worked well down the left and well finished by Placio at the near post to extend the lead.
Half-time: Woking 2 South Park 0
Woking continued to have most of the play in the second half, but the visitors pushed up much more allowing their opponents less space. The passes that did get through did not cause any problems to the South Park defence. A slip by Dan Bedford gave the visitors a rare chance but he recovered well to cut out the danger. Calvin Moses then just failed to lob the keeper from the edge of the box. However, following this South Park made a quick break up the pitch and pulled a goal back. They then proceeded to enjoy a good ten minute spell but were unable to snatch a second. In the last ten minutes Woking scored twice to make the tie safe. First, Addison Bray ran on to score with confidence. In the last minute, Myles Newry did likewise to complete the victory.
Woking will be at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe in the next round.
It would be good to see more people coming down for these games and to support possible Woking stars of the future.
